The ever-coveted Donald Trump endorsement is a prize that most Republicans have sought, but only a few have gotten. It is desired because of the incredibly high success record of Trump-endorsed candidates around the country. Speculation has been growing for months over which Wisconsin Governor candidate Trump would endorse if any.
Many months ago, Trump came out and encouraged former Congressman Sean Duffy to run for Wisconsin Governor and offered his endorsement. As we all know, Duffy chose not to run. Since then Trump has been silent about Wisconsin.
Over the past couple of months, Governor candidates, Rebecca Kleefisch, Tim Ramthun, and Tim Michels all traveled to Mara Lago to court President Trump’s endorsement. Kevin Nicholson did not seek Trump’s endorsement.
Before entering the race, Tim Michels was the most recent visitor, joining former Governor Tommy Thompson and Diane Hendricks. This created speculation that Michels was likely to get the Trump nod.
Fast forward to yesterday, Trump made the official endorsement of Tim Michels via his Save America PAC. This was no surprise because Trump seemed to never consider Kleefisch based on his earlier nudge for Duffy to enter the race.
Trump stated, ‘During my Administration, Tim served on my infrastructure task force, and helped us plan and start building the Keystone XL Pipeline before Joe Biden launched his assault on American Energy production.’
Tim Michels immediately released a border wall ad as ‘Conservative Candidate, Endorsed by President Trump’ and talked about building a prototype when Trump asked for ‘The Wall’
Based on past trump endorsement success, this will likely be a game-changer in the Wisconsin Governor’s race. We will see the impact over the next several weeks up to the August 9th primary.
