All my life I have heard that doctors recommend people get outside and be active with walking or other exercises. I learned that this was to expose people to the sun to increase vitamin D and to get fresh oxygen. I was told that high levels of vitamin D and oxygen in the blood help the body to fight germs that cause disease and that low levels of vitamin D and oxygen in the blood invite disease. Isn’t ‘sheltering in place’ weakening Americans, making it easier for them to get sick?
This coronavirus is a new disease from China that is similar to pneumonia or influenza. According to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in the 2018-2019 flu season 16.5 million Americans saw a doctor because of the flu, 490,000 were hospitalized because of it and 34,000 people died from it. Why weren’t we staying in our homes and destroying our economy to save those people? What’s more, “shelter in place” is the advice Italy followed. How well did that work?
Check the statistics. Most people who get the coronavirus survive. The emerging statistics seem to follow the ratio pattern similar to other flus. There are practical things that can be done to protect people and those things should be done. But destroying the livelihood of over 300 million people is not practical, realistic or sane. I suspect that our government leaders are being misled with bad advice from those who want our country to become like a laboratory. That’s not going to work.
