Michels responds to primary opponent leveling dishonest and desperate attacks.
WEST ALLIS, Wisc. – Republican Tim Michels, the Army Veteran, business executive and political outsider running for governor released the following response to an outright dishonest and desperate attack leveled by one of his opponents today in the GOP primary:
The spreading of lies is sad, and desperate, but that’s what politicians who didn’t expect to find themselves losing do. I have always stayed positive, that’s the person I am and the type of campaign I am running.
Yet, I’m a guy with experience in a tough industry and I will always defend the truth. People are smart and are tired of politics as usual. I guess I’m not surprised at the falsehoods.
Here are the facts: Tony Evers wanted to raise gas taxes. Rebecca Kleefisch never lowered them. I am willing to look at a gas tax holiday and a repeal of the minimum mark up, as all tax reforms will be on the table. I support the right to work. I oppose gas tax indexing and prevailing wage mandates.
When I was done with my service in the Army leading others, fighting for this country and defending its honor, I worked in the private sector for the last 25 years. Much of that work was leading the fight for American energy independence, including building the Keystone XL Pipeline. Any politician can read talking points or issue press releases and call that doing something. I’ve done the actual work. This is not theory for me. People are ready for a leader with real life, practical experience.
I will also note that I am the only candidate in this race who is rejecting financial support from any special interest PAC or lobbyist for any industry or group.
I, like most Wisconsinites, also oppose desperate candidates who think they can rescue their faltering campaign by lying about their opponent. Enough of the insider political garbage. My campaign is staying focused on defeating Tony Evers. He and Joe Biden are two peas in a pod and have Wisconsin on the wrong track. I will help hardworking, law abiding, taxpaying Wisconsinites rise up and beat Tony Evers. That’s who I’m focused on. That’s why I’m running. That’s why our campaign continues to surge as others run out of gas.
